Types Of Portlight Covers

Woods Only select solid hardwoods are used in the construction of the wood portlight cover. Available in teak, mahogany, cherry, maple, sapelle, oak, anigre and basswood that are stain matched to the boat's interior wood. The finish is a 100% UV resistant pre-catalyzed lacquer - matte, satin or gloss finishes. All wood portlight covers allows zero light emission, total blackout.

Acrylics

The acrylic portlight cover is made of United States manufactured high-temperature plastics guaranteed not to discolor or warp. Available in matte black blackout, matte white blackout, semi-opaque white, and frosted clear or black tint.

Specialty

Custom metal finishes in chrome plate, black or gold anodized aluminum or polished bronze. Portlight covers covered in garment grade leather, Majilite or Ultra Leather synthetic leathers with optional custom accent stitching.

Magnetic Attachment

The portlight cover attachment to the portlight is achieved by neodynium magnets. The neodynium magnets have powerful permanent strength for a secure attachment in rough seas. The magnets are nickel plated or black anodized to prevent corrosion. One set of magnets are inset into the back of the portlight cover behind the knobs. Another set of magnets are adhered to the portlight lens glass with a permanent bond 3M VHB double sided tape discs. The foam gasket around the back edges seals the blackout portlight covers to the lens frame to prevent light gaps.

Portlight Storage

A set of magnets are attached to the bulkhead in close proximity to the portlight for secure storage of the portlight cover.

Raised Hinges and Latches

The portlight cover typically overlaps and fits flat onto the lens frame for privacy. Some portlights have raised hinges and latches that extend onto the lens frame. Cutouts are made into the gasket on the backside of the portlight covers to accommodate the raised hinges and latches.
