Magnetic Attachment
The portlight cover attachment to the portlight is achieved by neodynium magnets. The neodynium magnets have powerful permanent strength for a secure attachment in rough seas. The magnets are nickel plated or black anodized to prevent corrosion. One set of magnets are inset into the back of the portlight cover behind the knobs. Another set of magnets are adhered to the portlight lens glass with a permanent bond 3M VHB double sided tape discs. The foam gasket around the back edges seals the blackout portlight covers to the lens frame to prevent light gaps.

Portlight Storage
A set of magnets are attached to the bulkhead in close proximity to the portlight for secure storage of the portlight cover.

Raised Hinges and Latches
The portlight cover typically overlaps and fits flat onto the lens frame for privacy. Some portlights have raised hinges and latches that extend onto the lens frame. Cutouts are made into the gasket on the backside of the portlight covers to accommodate the raised hinges and latches.

Portlight Cover with CutoutsInterior Protection
The portlight cover protects the boat's interior wood finishes and expensive fabrics from damaging UV rays. The high temperature white acrylic backing of the blackout portlight covers deflect the heat from direct sunlight and the non-conductive woods provide an insulator against heat and cold. The portlight cover is the only boat window treatment that can assure total privacy and light control.

Portlight Covers From The Portlight Cover Company
What Is A Portlight Cover?
Portlight covers are a unique new innovation in dressing up boat interiors and adding value to them, while also taking boat and yacht interior design and decoration to a whole new level. Portlight covers are not only beautiful and will add to the richness and value of any boat interior or yacht interior, but they are also very functional and practical.
Portlight covers are custom-made from either wood or acrylic, with each one cut and designed to give a perfect fit for your specific port hole or portlight. Each portlight cover has a foam seal around the back that seals tightly to the lens glass when attached, giving you complete control over any light entering the cabin. This foam seal completely blacks out all light, preventing any sunlight and UV rays, or any outside nighttime light from entering the cabin.
These covers are then held firmly to the lens glass by small, extremely strong neodynium magnets. The strength of these magnets to hold tight in all kinds of rough seas, has been attested to by many of our customers worldwide. Each set of magnets is either nickel plated or black anodized to prevent corrosion from salt and water.
Whether you are using them to block out light to make sure you or the kids can sleep, or to protect the valuable interior of your boat or yacht when you are not on board or when it is dry docked, docked or in storage for any period of time, portlight covers are the perfect answer. They are also the perfect solution when you simply want real privacy at the marina, or anywhere else you are docked, without anyone walking by being able to accidentally glance through your boat blinds and shades.
But it doesn't stop there. Each and every portlight cover is made with yacht-quality woodwork and precise milling and craftsmanship. Adding portlight covers will enhance the look and value of any boat interior, adding a rich, beautiful custom-finished look. You can take your boat with ordinary boat blinds and shades, and make it look like a yacht inside, with the simple addition of our beautiful portlight covers. Take the already high-quality of your yacht interior design to the next level and add increased value, by getting rid of your yacht blinds and putting in portlight covers.
The other wonderful feature of portlight covers is that it is so quick and easy to add portlight covers to your boat or yacht! Unlike boat blinds and shades or yacht blinds and shades, there is actually no installation involved in adding portlight covers to your boat or yacht's interior. All you do is simply apply two small magnets to the lens glass of your port hole or portlight, then apply two more on the bulkhead below the port hole or portlight to hold it when not in use, and you are done. No measuring, no screwdrivers or drilling, no mess!
Only The Highest Quality Materials
Now that we've gone over the benefits of using portlight covers, let's take a look at what they are really made of. We are very proud to say we use only the very highest quality materials when crafting our portlight covers for you. These beautiful covers are available in either hardwoods or acrylics, and every one is hand-crafted with yacht-quality workmanship.
You Select The Wood
We use only the finest mahogany, teak, maple, cherry, oak, sapelle, basswood and anigre hardwoods we can find, to craft our wood portlight covers. All our wood portlight covers are stained to match the interior wood of your boat or yacht, and the finish is a 100% UV-resistant, pre-catalyzed lacquer in either a matte or gloss.
Who Can Use A Portlight Cover?
Portlight covers are obviously a great idea and very practical items for anyone who owns a boat or yacht, to add beauty and protection to their boat or yacht interior. They are very easy to order and with virtually no installation, they are a breeze to use and to stow away. But, Portlight Covers are also a smart and practical idea for boat builders, yacht designers, and boat refitting too!
Portlight covers not only add to the beauty and functionality of the interior of any new boat, they also protect the interior and keep it looking newer longer. Don't forget, portlight covers seal out the fading and damage that can be caused to beautiful and often expensive boat and yacht interiors, by exposure to the sun's harmful UV rays. By adding Portlight Covers instead of typical boat blinds or yacht blinds, you can add years and years to the life of the boat interiors you create.
The big thing to remember is there is next to no installation for portlight covers. Every portlight cover comes with two small, extremely strong, neodynium magnets already installed behind the knobs on the portlight cover. All you have to do is adhere two small, matching magnets to the portlight lens glass with permanent bond 3M VHB double-sided tape discs that are provided with them. Then adhere two on the bulkhead directly below the port hole or portlight, to hold the portlight cover when not in use.
